Coffee and Health (Good and Bad)
For health conscious individuals, the search for understanding on how health is affected by coffee may seem cumbersome. There are so many contradicting arguments related to how coffee affects one’s health; is drinking coffee beneficial or harmful to one’s health? If so, in what way is coffee drinking beneficial or harmful? Below, you will find information that will clarify the questions related to coffee drinking and health concerns in an effort to clear away the troublesome confusion caused by conflicting studies.
Many health conscious individuals equate the use or consumption of caffeine with ill health effects. If coffee drinking is kept to a moderate level, there are no ill effects derived from coffee consumption. Recent studies have proved that if an individual keeps coffee drinking to a couple of cups daily, not only are there no ill side effects or dangerous health effects, but the coffee drinker actually gains certain health benefits. For one thing, there is a lower chance of getting Type II Diabetes if one is a coffee drinker! In fact, other benefits are derived from coffee drinking as well: a lower risk of getting gallstones, a reduced risk of colon cancer, improvements in memory, and a reduced chance of getting Parkinson’s disease too!
There are some mild side effects that can be derived from drinking coffee which may include an increase in one’s heart rate and occasional heart palpitations, but the latter usually occurs when someone drinks too much coffee in a single sitting or the individual consumes too much coffee in a given day. To maintain maximum health and still enjoy coffee drinking, a certain level of moderation must be implemented. So how much coffee is too much?
The amount of coffee that one can handle drinking without having any side effects depends on the individual. Nevertheless, certain studies conducted on both men and women reveal that one can drink or consume as many as six cups of caffeine coffee in a day, if consumption is spaced out in 2 to 4 hour interval without any severe health repercussions. Further, drinking coffee, particular if one is drinking two to three cups a day, will prove to elevate memory and cognitive functioning too. Individuals that drink coffee have sharper memories, and this was a benefit that was once believed to be a temporary side effect from drinking coffee. In truth, new studies have revealed that coffee drinkers, particularly females, benefit from an enhanced memory for many years!
Coffee has been noted to elevate the level of one’s endurance; a couple of cups of coffee can increase one’s stamina and help improve the individual’s functioning in a variety of different sports. Meanwhile, drinking coffee also increases one’s level of alertness. While it is true that coffee does not provide a sobering effect for individuals that have consumed alcohol in excess, an individual can be alert and aware of his or her surroundings after drinking one or more cups of coffee in any given day.
